MINGMA SHERPA

Mingma Gelu Sherpa has over 20 years of climbing experience, and is focused on providing premium adventure experiences to all who join his expedition and trekking packages. He has summitted Mt. Everest more than 8 times.

Mingma Gelu Sherpa is a legendary, extraordinary person, who has played a significant role in promoting mountain tourism in the world market. He is a world renowned climber and entrepreneur, who has summitted Mt. Everest more than 8 times. He has over 20 years of climbing experience and is focused on providing premium adventure experiences to all who join his expedition and trekking packages.

Mr Sherpa has been working with Russia based 7 Summits Club for many years and has a fantastic relationship with mountaineers all over the world. Mingma Gelu Sherpa also has a special relationship with the top of the world, as someone who has travelled through this terrain many times and submitted several times. He leads by example for climbing and mountain expedition hospitality.

Mingma has been recognized with several awards for his incredible feats and his ability to inspire a passion for the mountains, globally. With roots in the Makalu region, he has now become a renowned entrepreneur, climber and inspirational mountaineer, who has been recognized by the Nepali government, the Russian government and also the Guinness Book of World Records.

TIMELINE


1979

  • Mingma Gelu Sherpa was born on the 3rd of February in Sankhuwasabha, Makalu Ward No. 2


1998

  • Mera Peak (first peak climb)
  • Island Peak (second peak climb)


2000

  • Climbed Mt. Everest (for the first time: 8500m) First Expedition as a Climbing Sherpa
  • Met famous Russian Mountaineer, Alex Abramov (7 Summit President) in Nepal and became good friends. Later they started working together, and that relationship has flourished to date.


2002

  • Mt. Everest first Summit with Mixed International Group
  • Went to France on his first visit abroad. Took the opportunity to tour all of Europe during this visit.
  • Climbed many mountains like Mont Blanc and the Alps


2004

  • Climbed Mt. Everest and many other 7000m peaks
  • Started Learning Russian Language
  • Became the main guide i.e. Sardar, and went for other Himalayas Climbs


2006

  • Mt. Everest and Mt. Elbrus
  • Travelled to different places in America and climbed Mt. Shasta




2008

  • Mt. Everest Closed due to China Olympics so, took time to rest and went for 6000-7000m climbs



2010

  • Climbed Everest (Last trip)


2017

  • Established Red Fox, outdoors and mountaineering gear company


2019

  • Established Nomad Kathmandu in Partnership with Namgyal Sherpa. www.nomad.com.np


1996-98

  • Started his journey in the travel and trekking field
  • Worked as a porter for trekking


1999

  • Mountaineering Training


2001

  • In October 2001, climbed Putha Himchuli with a French Group (7244m)
  • Climbed Makalu Mountain
  • Cho Oyu Mountain (8000m)



2003

  • Climbed Everest with his siblings
    • Elder Sister, Lakpa Sherpa (first lady to climb Everest 9 times)
    • Younger Sister, Mingma Kipa Sherpa (climbed Everest twice)
  • Received Guinness Book of World Records for Most Siblings Climbed Together
  • Additional Note*: His elder brother, Pemba Renjing Sherpa has climbed Everest 12 times, and his younger brother has climbed once.
  • Cho Oyu Summit


2005

  • Climbed Mt. Everest in the Spring
  • Went to Russia for the first time
  • Became the first Nepalese Mountaineer to climb the highest mountain (8-9 times)
  • Mount Elbrus climbed around 20-30 times from 2005


2007

  • Mt. Everest
  • Cho Oyu in October


2009

  • Climbed the Everest from South side i.e. Nepal side


2011

  • Established 7 Summit Club
  • Stopped climbing and started managing
  • Only went for 6000-7000m climbs


2018

  • Established Altitude Air (Heli) with friends as he realized that mountaineers need rescue at times
